The Haines® Greeny® Compostable Underpad has been officially recognised as a Finalist in the Excellence in Innovation Awards at Australia’s leading waste management conference, Waste 2023.

The Waste Awards acknowledge key people and projects running behind the scenes to improve sustainability in our country. They are held amid a consortium of 670 delegates, gathered in Coffs Harbour, to connect, collaborate and learn from each other with a shared vision: to advance the management of Australia’s waste.

Haines® was honoured to be recognised as one of three finalists in the ‘Innovative Product or Technology’ category alongside two brilliant initiatives: the RecycleSmart Building Program and EPOC Enviro’s Surface Active Foam Fractionation (SAFF®) system (designed to remove PFAS chemicals from groundwater) which was deservedly announced the winner.

The Greeny® Compostable Underpad is the latest compostable product developed by Haines Solutions Lab and the first of its kind in Australia. Designed to help hospitals and healthcare facilities transition to more environmentally considerate consumables, it has been eagerly embraced by environmental advocates in healthcare across the country, since its launch in late 2022.

With the introduction of two new sizes of Greeny® planned in the coming months, being recognised by the waste management sector is both validating and timely.

But accolades aren’t the only reason our Solutions Lab team attended the event. As Laura de Lacy, National Product Manager, explained:

While Haines is ahead of the environmental curve in the medical consumables industry, that curve has a long way to move.

Real progress can only happen by actively seeking connection and collaboration with those who process the waste that our sector generates.

The annual Waste conference is a prime opportunity to do just that… Being recognised as a finalist in the Awards is a wonderful bonus.”
